Opened in 1932 and classified as national heritage, the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur combines a restored colonial Art Deco wing and a contemporary tower, near KL Sentral.

The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur occupies one of the most historically charged addresses in Malaysia's capital. Opened in 1932 and classified as national heritage, it today combines a restored heritage wing and a contemporary tower, just minutes from KL Sentral.

Why stay here

This 5-star hotel is one of the rare establishments in Kuala Lumpur to marry genuine historical depth with the standards of a modern palace. The original building, commissioned by the trustees of Loke Wan Tho's succession, son of Loke Yew, was designed by the Dutch architecture firm Keyes and Dowdeswell. Its neoclassical style mingles with Art Deco: white Roman columns, ornate cornices, porte-cochère and curved drive set the tone from arrival.

At its opening, the hotel pioneered modern comfort in Malaysia: hot and cold running water, bathtubs in rooms, a rarity of luxury for the era. Its rooftop garden, equipped with a dance floor hosting 350 guests, received shows from Hollywood and London's West End. It fell into disrepair during the 1970s before escaping demolition and being classified as national heritage.

Atmosphere

The Majestic's atmosphere unfolds in two acts. On one side, the Majestic Wing preserves the memory of the 1930s: polished parquet floors, mahogany libraries, club chairs, hushed lounges where Afternoon Tea is taken beneath original mouldings. On the other, the Tower Wing embraces a contemporary reading of Art Deco, with dark marble, polished chrome and skyline views. A climate-controlled passageway connects the two wings, allowing you to move from one to the other as between two eras.
