Rompin Rainforest Lodge
Rompin Rainforest Lodge
Base camp in the heart of Endau-Rompin National Park, 30 minutes from Kuala Rompin. Flexible accommodations, guided trails and canopy observation.
The Rompin Rainforest Lodge serves as a base camp for exploring the Endau-Rompin forest complex, one of the planet's oldest tropical rainforests, estimated to be approximately 130 million years old. Located within the Kinchin base camp, on the banks of the Kinchin River, the lodge combines flexible accommodations, educational facilities and direct access to a network of guided trails.
Why Choose This Lodge
Three elements set this establishment apart. First, its location: it sits within Endau-Rompin National Park itself, which considerably reduces travel times to trails and points of interest. Second, the range of accommodations spans from shared dormitories to two-level family chalets, making it suitable for school groups, families and couples alike. Finally, the lodge boasts a genuine interpretation centre, the Rainforest Discovery Centre, which transforms your stay into a structured nature experience rather than a simple night in the wilderness.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere of the place is shaped by the Kinchin River and the surrounding canopy. Buildings remain deliberately understated, with open terraces overlooking the forest and a cafeteria surrounded by vegetation, where meals are enjoyed to the soundtrack of jungle birds and insects. Wi-Fi is available only in common areas, leaving rooms disconnected: a choice consistent with the establishment's nature-focused orientation. Evenings are peaceful, punctuated by forest sounds and the return of guided excursion groups.
Accommodations
The lodge offers five options to suit different traveler profiles.
- Riverview Lodge: accommodation with direct river views, oriented toward couples and small groups.
- Rainforest Lodge: the establishment's signature product, facing the Kinchin River, suited for families and groups of friends.
- Rainforest Dorm: single beds distributed across two rooms, shared bathrooms and communal lounge, designed for school groups, corporate teams and larger numbers of travelers.
- Rainforest Family Lodge: space for four people, close to the main building.
- Standard Chalet: two-level construction with two upstairs bedrooms and open-plan living area on the ground floor, suited for families or small groups.
Services and Facilities
The Rainforest Discovery Centre houses an auditorium and interactive exhibits dedicated to local biodiversity and environmental education. An 80-meter suspension bridge crosses the Kinchin River, offering views of Mahseer fish in the clear water from its platform. A 15-meter observation tower provides a canopy-level vantage point, ideal for birdwatching and observing tree-dwelling wildlife.
The cafeteria, surrounded by vegetation, handles on-site meals. A multipurpose space can accommodate events and educational programs. Wi-Fi is limited to common areas.
Activities and Excursions
Outings are led by naturalist guides. Several itineraries are available:
- Mahkota Waterfall, standing about fifty meters high, with a natural pool ideal for swimming at the base of the cascade.
- Jeram Panjang Trek, accessible to children, following paths used by elephants and leading to a stream.
- Lubuk Siku Trail, more demanding, crossing marshy areas and including some technical passages.
- Sungai Kernam Forest Therapy, a long walk to an isolated river.
- Padang Tujuh Trek, traversing multiple ecosystems including a forest of endemic palms.
The program is rounded out with kayaking on the Kinchin River, birdwatching sessions, a river cruise and nature interpretation walks.
Location and Access
The lodge is located at Kinchin base camp, within Endau-Rompin National Park. Allow approximately 30 minutes by road from Kuala Rompin and an hour from Mersing. Access is via Kampung Selendang junction, then by paved road to the camp.
