Paya Beach Spa & Dive Resort
Paya Beach Spa & Dive Resort
Beach resort on Tioman Island, in Paya village: 5-star PADI diving, reef snorkeling, spa, chalets and villas facing the sea.
Paya Beach Spa & Dive Resort occupies a stretch of the central west coast of Tioman Island, in Paya village. This island in the South China Sea, off the east coast of peninsular Malaisie, is known for its coral reefs accessible just meters from the shore. The establishment combines beachside accommodation, a 5-star PADI-accredited dive center, and an activity program focused on the sea and tropical rainforest.
Why stay here
The resort caters primarily to travelers interested in diving and snorkeling: the reefs are accessible directly from the beach, and the 5-star PADI center oversees outings and certification courses. Beyond diving, the establishment emphasizes a genuine environmental dimension, with an aquaponics farm (fish farming combined with vegetable cultivation in a closed-loop system) and a sea turtle release program in which guests can participate.
Free morning yoga sessions by the sea, available by simply registering at reception, complete an offering that aims for active beachside stays without formality.
Atmosphere
Nestled between tropical rainforest and white sand beach, the setting sets the tone: bungalows and chalets scattered through the vegetation, two pools, a restaurant facing the sea. The whole place emphasizes simple comfort rather than ostentatious luxury, in keeping with Tioman resorts' spirit, where the relatively long journey to the island keeps mass tourism at bay.
Rooms and suites
Several accommodation categories allow for different budgets and configurations.
- Glamping Suite: private pool and balcony, for a more distinctive option.

- Superior Chalet: a few minutes from the beach, in a quieter setting.
- Standard Beach Front and Standard Chalet: the most affordable options, surrounded by vegetation and a pond.
Services and facilities
Two pools structure resort life: one dedicated to diving and snorkeling lessons, the other reserved for swimming and relaxation.
The spa offers a menu centered on Paya massage with essential oils (lavender, rose, sandalwood, lemongrass, clove, peppermint), rounded out by four-hand treatments, hot stone therapy, traditional herbal massages, and prenatal massage.
For dining, the Rama Rama restaurant serves Asian and Western dishes overlooking the sea, while the Beach Bar welcomes guests in the open air. A duty-free shop rounds out the facilities: spirits, perfumes, cosmetics, cigars and local crafts.
The activities desk coordinates snorkeling, dive certifications, kayaking, quad (ATV) excursions through the forest, treks and the short hike to Rockfall waterfall, located behind the resort.
Location
The resort is located in Paya village, on Tioman's central west coast. The island is accessible by ferry from Mersing or Tanjong Gemok, on the east coast of the Malaisie peninsula. All boats serve Paya Village jetty; from there, allow 5 minutes' walk to reach the establishment.
When to visit
Tioman follows the rhythm of the northeast monsoon, which affects the east coast of peninsular Malaisie from November to February. During this period, the sea is rough, underwater visibility deteriorates and many island establishments close or drastically reduce services; ferry connections may also be suspended. The most favorable period runs from March to October, with optimal visibility for diving generally between April and September. It's best to check the resort's opening and ferry frequency when planning your stay.
Around the area
Tioman lends itself to several days of exploration: discovering other island villages (Salang, Air Batang, Juara), snorkeling trips to nearby islets, jungle treks. To extend your Malaisie journey, several complementary stops are worth considering: Belum Rainforest Resort for the Belum-Temengor primary forest, The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat for Perak's hot springs, or The Eastern & Oriental Hotel for a heritage stop in Penang.
